This summer The Bright Tradeshow established itself in Berlin and dedicates its last Floor to Artists, Galleries and publishers. West Berlin Gallery will have a 90 sqm booth where we will present exclusive works from Alias, Cuypi, Doppeldenk, Lisa Wassmann, Roland Brückner and Codaï Nakamura.

About Bright

For a wide variety of brands Bright offers a product-related chance for presentation, its unique concept guarantees a maximum of image and identity. The individual location as well as the product-orientated framework, consisting of an innovative contest/artist program, support the characteristically atmosphere of the off-show. Skateboard culture and the relating side-events (artist shows & nightlife) are important features of the tradeshow; still the commercial aspect takes a primary position. With its concept the Bright tradeshow offers a very positive and comfortable atmosphere without neglecting the function as an interface between distribution and retail.

A special focus on cooperating with the media leads to a maximum of transparency and carries the positive vibes beyond the location of the former Stasi headquarters. The unique concept of the whole event, a selected exhibitors portfolio as well as the supporting program and the intigration in the fashionweek of Berlin are indications for a Bright future.

Here’s a map of the Art Space. It’s located on the last floor of the building and you will find us just in the middle! We have a few visitors pass, mail us if you need one.

Pics of the Vernissage for ‘Cuypi: Life Is a Gift’

Yesterday we celebrated the opening of Cuypi’s first solo exhibition and it was a really nice evening. The show is still on display until January 17th and it’s really worth to come around. We have set up a nice collection – posters, handpainted skateboards and vinyl toys, shirts and canvases and a painted wall.

Life is a Gift

The end of the year is coming nearer and nearer, but we are happy to announce the opening of another exhibition for this year. We will show french graphic designer and illustrator Cuypi in a solo exhibition, opening on Wednesday, December 16th. Don’t miss the opening as Cuypi will paint a wall of the gallery live!

Born in 1980 and got used to drawing from early childhood on, Cuypi developed an own unique style which combines character design with typography in a highly recognizable way.

In his works typography adds to the motif to make it complete but at the same time acts as an autonomous and stand-alone feature of the layout. He handles letters like characters, allowing for their own and strong expression. One of his predominant topics as well as a constant source of inspiration is music: ‚It’s the rhythm of my life, and my life is the rhythm of my music. Before I start drawing an illustration, I put my headphones on and choose a playlist which matches my mood. Then I try to translate feelings into images’ (Cuypi). You will also find a lot of references to comics, street culture and movies.

Cuypi’s designs are not bound to one single medium, he is working as a graphic designer for a communication agency as well as designing for T-Shirts and Skateboards and customizing vinyl toys. He has worked for a wide range of clients, including laFraise, Threadless, DAHRA (Against Tibetan Abuse), Late Nite Hype, Salomon, Grey London, Archiduchesse and Vinyl Kills Mp3. His design for a christmas make-over for the facade of Louis Vuitton’s shop on 5th Avenue, New York, reached the final round of the competition.

The exhibition at West Berlin Gallery will show a broad overview of Cuypi’s artistic expression, including digital prints on canvas, shirts, toys and skateboards. We are happy to invite you to the opening on Wednesday, December 16th, starting 19:00. Come around and see Cuypi painting a wall live, enjoy some good music and decent drinks!

BSV_123Klan123Klan: We got the skills to pay the bills
Based on geometric variables like points, lines and curves and their composites in form of polygones, today computer generated vector graphics are an essential part of visual communication and illustration. Blood Sweat Vector, founded in 2008 by the designers Jared Nickerson (aka J3Concepts) and Brad Mahaffey as a platform for news, portfolios, recommendations and artistic exchange, is today one of the biggest networks for vectordesign. Some of the most important international vector artists are among the members. Blood Sweat Vector sees itself as an open channel for communication which encourages instant feedback and allows for interaction between likeminded designers.
All Blood Sweat vector members are highly regarded internationally and can look back on several cooperations, doing design for vinyl toys, skateboards, video games or fashion. In their portfolios you will find clients like Louis Vuitton, Kid Robot, Eastpack, MTV, Adidas, Sony, Artoyz and publications in magazines like Modart, WAD, Juxtapoz and many more.
