“The relation between the public space (in this case the billboard) and the material, the paper, is important to me and leads me very often to study this relation. I think paper represents best the bi-dimensionality, and I was forced to work with this bi-dimensionality. The poster on billboard is flat. Earlier I tried with Elfo to bring out the thickness of billboards in berlin, digging a big circle in advertisement, this time I worked on the tri-dimensionality, in a really simple and essential way. Since my purpose is to study the relation beetwen the billboard and the paper, I used only a blue back advertisement paper, working on it to come out from the flat billboard.” says the artist.

We encourage you to come into the bathroom stalls and find a unique idea for someone special. Discover rare works by local artists and creative products from independent business owners, or just enjoy the atmosphere of shopping in a bath.

STATTMARKT is the place to be in Berlin this weekend to find great last minute gift ideas, and much more! The stalls will carry independent artists, gallery representatives, photographers & graphic artists, design, fashion & jewelry, product design & merchandise, comics & literature, food & beverage, etc.

In the joy of the festive season a charity fund called DADAAB Help Program in Kenya will also be hold. The program also includes performances, exhibition and a mid market party. (Sat 17th, 20:00)

For those who don’t know this Berlin based french artist, his speciality could be called “urban propaganda”. Mixing silk screen and paint, SP38 plays with words to create provocative sentences which are strongly related to both political and social events of their time. With four colors : blue, red, deep gold and dark blue, and his unique font which has become his signature, SP38 is definitely a master in his field.

About his “Escape” posters, SP38 says:

“This is the poster I’ve been pasting the most during the past year. I started pasting it in Korea in a small village during an artist residency. I was working together with other artists focusing on this village where, 350 years ago, a sailor from the Netherlands was held prisoner. I was focusing on the idea of escaping, because the sailor never managed to escape, and that is how I started writing “escape” on posters. After getting back to Berlin I kept using this word, and I still use it a lot because it is a word everyone can understand everywhere. I’ve also been pasting those posters next to where the Berlin wall used to stand, between Bernauerstrasse and Brunnenstrasse. I like the idea of escaping, I don’t know where from, but I think it sounds good.”

“Escape” can already be found in the streets of many cities around the world: Berlin, Hannover, Paris, Angers, Dree, Sombernon, Seoul, Gang Jin, Yangon, Tallinn, Parnu, Yaoundé, Montreal, New York, Manila, Marakina, Pitogos…
