About
Founded in 2009 by Elodie Bellanger & Guillaume Trotin, West Berlin Gallery specializes in street art & graffiti. Being located at the former border between Eastern and Western Berlin, the gallery takes its name from its location. The birth of graffiti & street art in Berlin also occurred in Western Berlin in the late 1970s, which was another inspiration behind the gallery’s name.
West Berlin Gallery represents several Berlin-based street art artists including Alias, Prost, SP38, BR1 and 1UP Crew, just to name a few. The relationships that we have developed with our artists are based on trust, respect, and mutual appreciation for unconventional art. Because of these relationships, West Berlin Gallery is not only able to provide the public with regular exhibitions, which consist of works that were once only available for viewing on the streets, but also an insider´s perspective on the contemporary movement that is urban art. The focus is to provide a space that allows these artists, who began decorating the streets solely for the sake of creating, an opportunity to interact with their audience on a more attainable level. The artists we support have shown their talent on the walls of many cities and gained the respect of the public first. For us, this credibility is the reason their works are now displayed on our gallery walls.
West Berlin Gallery works with a variety of artists whose individual works are greatly diverse. Some work on wood, others work on paper, and often times recycled materials are thrown in the mix. Some use stencils, others use paint, pencils and markers, and many tend to incorporate an assortment of all sorts.
The gallery comprises a main exhibition room where monthly shows are hosted, as well as a showroom where the gallery’s most representative artworks are on display for viewing upon request.
The artists currently represented include Alias, BR1, 1UP Crew, Giacomo Spazio, SP38, Linda’s Ex, Prost, Rallitox, Jakob Tolstrup, Niark1 and Chow Martin.
A selection of artworks are available for purchase on the online shop. More works are available for purchase by appointment.
